Pet Travel Certificates

APHIS International Pet Travel  Our veterinarians at Animal Health Care of Marlboro are some of the few veterinarians in New Jersey who can provide APHIS travel certificates. Contact us for details about traveling with your pet. When traveling internationally, please note that the preparation for certification can take months. When traveling with your pet(s), there may be animal health requirements specific for that destination. As soon as you know your travel details, please contact us to assist with the pet travel process. Factors to consider may include meeting time frames for obtaining a health certificate, updating vaccinations, diagnostic testing, or administration of medications/ treatments.

We also recommend calling your airline in advance to understand their requirements for traveling with your pet.

Important Things to Remember

Schedule your pet’s veterinary exam prior to travel:

  • This exam must be completed by a USDA-certified veterinarian. These veterinarians have received specialized training in the processes associated with proper animal import and export.
  • We have two here at Animal Health Care of Marlboro! Visit Deborah Breitstein, DVM or Steven Tepper, DVM.
  • Make an appointment well in advance. Without the necessary paperwork, you and your pet may get temporarily separated during your trip.

Before Your Veterinary Visit

  • Contact your airline (if air travel is to be expected), and ask for their specific pet travel requirements.
  • Visit https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel. This website outlines all of the specific requirements, deadlines, and paperwork necessary for entry into each travel destination, and will allow you to determine when to book your pet’s appointment prior to travel.
  • Each country and state has their own specific requirements and regulations. These regulations have been created to prevent the spread of diseases, and to help keep track of animals during travel.

While Traveling

  • Carry several copies of the paperwork provided by your USDA-certified veterinarian.
