Sometimes it can be difficult to determine if your pet is experiencing an emergency or if they’re just having an off day. In certain circumstances,  urgent and emergency situations are quite obvious and in these instances, time is of the essence.

Rest assured, we have all the equipment needed to handle pet emergencies. We provide the very latest in surgical, anesthetic, diagnostic, and monitoring equipment to help ensure your pet receives the absolute best care possible. At Animal Health Care, we have a complete surgical suite and intensive care unit.

How can I determine if my pet is experiencing an emergency?

If you notice any of the following symptoms, please contact us immediately: 

  • Any difficulty breathing: gagging, choking, short or shallow breath
  • Weakness, difficulty walking, sudden collapse
  • Seizures, convulsions, loss of consciousness
  • Bloat: swollen or distended stomach, non-productive retching/vomiting
  • Allergic reactions including swelling, rashes or intense itching
  • Excessive, persistent bleeding
  • Inability or straining to urinate
  • Pregnancy complications, pets in labor for more than one hour
  • Bumping into things, disorientation, signs of blindness
  • Signs of pain: whining, shaking, hiding, dull behavior
  • Vomiting blood or passing blood in stools/urine
  • Sudden changes in behavior, appetite, elimination habits
  • Suspected poisoning, accidental overdose

Instances of trauma:

  • Bite wounds
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, lacerations
  • Burns
  • Heatstroke, dehydration, frostbite
  • Vehicular trauma: when a pet is hit by a moving car, truck, or bus
  • Eye injuries

Minor injuries and illnesses will be examined by our urgent care veterinarians during our regular office hours. If your pet needs care and we’re here we’ll do our best to get them them the veterinary urgent care they need. If further intensive, specialty, or after-hours care is needed, we will refer you to our specialty care provider:
